The “popcorn” burst is a clear indication of a cap that is done.
This one has a burst plus corrosion present. NOT good!
The dimple here is a burst ready to erupt.
Here we see the first of three matched 20mf Blue Atoms in its new home.

These old carbon comp resistors have drifted too far to be safe. Say goodbye, fellas!

This is the “forming” of the capacitors. Using the Variac, the line voltage is brought up to around 65 & raised 10 volts per hour until reaching 120.
